ISPublish

What is ISPublish?
  • ISPublish is a tool for publishers so that they can easily publish from MS Access and other linkable databases (for example: MS SQL).

  • The data can be fully used for every stage of the publishing process so you can create the canvass documents and reports you need, not just the ones with which your system can cope.

  • Publish in any text-based output: MS Word; Quark Xpress; 3b2; Web pages; and professional typesetting systems.

Why use ISPublish?
  • Regain control over your data.

  • Save days in the development of output routines.

  • Remove the pain of publishing your data.

  • Publish your data in new ways because you can do so easily.

  • Easy modification via look-up tables for initial set-up and for future revisions.

  • Files can be ready for publishing with minimal or no further intervention.

  • It's quick to export data and works well with densely- and sparsely-populated databases.

  • And it's actually fun to use.

Special Features
  • Dressing the data

    1. Dressing can be placed both before and after the data for every field.

    2. Empty fields can be replaced with dressing.

For Yes/No fields, No is treated as if it was empty.

    3. Grouping of data with de-duplicated headings to any number of levels.

This feature can maintain the hierarchical structure in html tables, ie, the end-table and end-list tags can be correctly placed.

    4. De-duplicated headings can be in the singular or plural depending on how many items there are.

    5. Replacement of de-duplicated data.

For example: if you want to produce an index where the term is replaced by an em-dash.

  • Modification of data

    1. Items in lists can be numbered.

    2. Lists can be punctuated correctly.

      For example:
      one; two; three; and four.

    3. Post codes and telephone numbers can be easily prevented from splitting at line ends.

    4. The insertion of text files can be triggered by the data.

Indeed the text files that are inserted can be generated from different tables in the same or another database.

    5. There is a powerful series of search and replace routines including conditional search and replace.

You can, for example, change the exported data that appears between two tags, leaving well alone occurrences of the same data elsewhere in the document. Also, you can make hyphens between two spaces or, indeed, between numbers, into en-dashes. These examples are just a beginning ...

    6. Default values can be specified at run-time.

For example: the recipient of a mail-merged letter could be specified as 'The Sales Manager' when the name field is empty.

  • Other features

    1. Any depth of related tables of data can be achieved.

For example: telephone numbers of people, in departments, in locations, in companies, in regions, in countries.

    2. The actual export is quick because it uses a special script that does not reside in the MS Access database but rather sucks the data through the ODBC interface.

    3. An analysis of tags that are used and the number of occurrences is given to assist in the all-important issue of quality control.

    4. Merge data with MS Word canvassing document where the end user has control over how the request for information is made.

For example: a different letter can be used that is triggered by different values given in a field. Merged files are ready for printing so that there is no need for the end user to learn how to use the MS Word mail-merge feature.

  • ISPublish is alive

    1. If you need to achieve a special effect that cannot be accomplished with the current features, ask for your needs to be considered in future releases.

    2. It is, of course, possible that a strategy exists to solve your needs - it is the intention of the author that everything that could possibly be required to publish data from your database can be accomplished both effectively and efficiently using ISPublish.

Minimum Requirements
  • MS Access version 97.

  • Windows 95/NT.

  • 60 Mbytes hard disc space for Perl scripting language.

  • A separate script (which is about 100 Kbytes) is used for each application.
